HERA Boston - Social Entrepreneurship and Micro-Financing

Why micro-finance lending?

We believe in equality.

We envision a world that empowers all women, regardless of their circumstance, to engage in the commercial economy and to create opportunity for themselves and others.

We believe that providing capital funds for those opportunities in a manner that is safe, affordable, and accessible to survivors of commercial sex exploitation makes it possible for them to create better lives for themselves, their families, and others in their communities.

How?

We work with the Boston HERA program to identify business plans and individual loan candidates for private loans. The Boston HERA program provides one-on-one entrepreneurial mentoring as well as business training. Graduates from this program are considered candidates for the micro-financing program.

Money for the primary capital fund is raised through traditional fundraising mechanisms, including grants, corporate sponsors, foundations, and individual donors. Donations may be earmarked for the micro-lending program and 100% of such targeted donations are distributed through the micro-financing program alone. As borrowers pay their loans back, the money is channeled back into the primary capital fund for future loans.
